Lauren Williams is a freelance writer, who lives on the East Coast. She has a lot of information about living an independent life with a disability from her personal experiences with Friedreich’s Ataxia, which leaves her in a wheelchair full time. Since she was diagnosed in 97’, Lauren has kept active and puts great effort into maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It’s believed this is the best defense to slowing the progression of the disease. Lauren has been able to fight off cardiomyopathy, but deals with other FA complications like diabetes as well as scoliosis that has lead to a spinal fusion. Lauren hopes that through writing, she will contribute to encouraging a younger generation to accept disabilities as grounds to build on rather than bury dreams to coincide with reality.
