The Stander

The Stander - Transfer pole - the vertical grab bar shown is one of my favorite and most used pieces of disability equipment.  The stander transfer pole is mounted vertically, and secured in place between the floor and ceiling using a tension mounted system.

I'm a little leery about grab bars that are not permanently mounted and can move when in critical use and lead to a fall or injury.  Yet, in my many years of use and thousands of transfers.  I have not once had the tension mounted The stander grab bar shift or malfunction.  I weigh approximately 150lbs and its capacity is 300lbs.  As a precaution every 6 months I'll have an able-bodied person hang on the stander and tighten if needed.

You can mount a sturdy grab bar virtually anywhere!  When transferring the stander - vertical grab bar helps lift you as you pull up using your upper body strength.  Lifting is key when you have mobility difficulties.

I have the stander grab bars installed in multiple places in my apartment. I have grab bars next to the bed, one in the bathroom and another one in the living room by the couch.  Since they are not permanently mounted the stander - Transfer pole can be ideal disability equipment for hotels!

The standers are valuable to any person with mobility impairments.

The Stander - Vertical grab bar types

The stander - transfer pole is available in two different types:

The Stander - The standard style transfer pole is straight up and down with a padded foam handle.  The stander pole is height adjustable dependant on the location but must have ceilings 7-10 feet and flat.

The Stander - The deluxe style transfer pole has the same exact specs but this version includes an S-shaped transfer handle. The extra S-shaped handle rotates and locks every 45° and is particularly handy for most transfers.

Both types of the stander poles are available in two colors: Iceberg white and Metallic Black

The Stander - Tension Mount

Using a corkscrew type mount that wedges between the ceiling and the floor.  No permanent mounting is necessary.  The stander grab bar comes with the appropriate wrench for tightening.  The vertical grab bar extends 7' to 10' from floor to ceiling.

  1. The Stander - Durability

rusty-metal-panel.jpg

Over the years I have had the standers in various conditions.  Indoors on carpet or tile in bathrooms where they get wet.  If they do get wet they do eventually rust and deteriorate.

so be careful!

I have owned many vertical grab bars over the years and depending on conditions, maintenance and usage the stander should last over ten years.
